Possession (TE)
Stock Abilities
Max Security: When in the Zone; frequently catches contested user Possession catches when covered by a single defender (X-Factor)
In Specialist: Excels at creating separation and securing the catch when running In routes
Red Zone Threat: Frequently secures catches in traffic vs. single coverage when inside the Red Zone (+20-yard line) unless covered by a defender with a catch knock-out ability
Matchup Nightmare: Excels at creating separation & securing catches in traffic from any position when covered by a linebacker or defensive lineman; unless the defender has 'Man Lock' or 'Zoned Out'
I have to put my tin foil hat on here because I think EA hates Ertz... lol.
Jokes aside, I really don't understand this card's stats. I respect his poor run block. He really isn't great at that IRL. The problem, however, is that him having poor speed, strength, acceleration, agility, elusiveness, and jump make him pretty inadequate at the TE position. Yeah, he runs solid short-mid routes and his release is strong, but unless you send it perfectly arriving at the top of his route, he can't create separation. Put a strong safety down in the box like Keanu Neal he gets pretty hard countered. Don't even bother trying to expose a poor matchup with a fade up the seam either unless you have his X Factor chem going, which leads me to my biggest question regarding this rating.
Under his hidden player traits, he doesn't make possession catches. WHAT?! The only reason you'd have him out there with the way his stats are justifiable in any way is to do exactly that. Not to mention his whole highlighted Superstar X Factor chem is "Max Security". Not a huge fan of the Superstar X Factor, but with only 3 on each side of the ball and making his necessary.
Point is, he is amazing in the red zone and closing out games. Very clutch when needed, but pretty underwhelming otherwise. Regardless, the Theme King Kittle is WAY better and still my #1 with Ertz at #2 and likely slipping to #3 in a month. Don't waste your coin or money on trying to get this card, and grind for the free Kittle. Great NAT reward for the solo challenges, but I am pretty disappointed to see him this weak at 90 OVR. I think the MUT rating team need to reassess how they rate pass catching TE, because, besides Kittle, every one of them is pretty trash.
Old post... The thing is, a lot of cards make little sense in madden. It is difficult to make a player with all the stat's you want to see, without making them impossibly OP. The balance is to take the essence of a player and make him fit into the game at the time he's released. They also make you fit players into a scheme, if your sending him on crossers and slot post's your probably using him wrong, find someone with some speed. Ertz is literally the guy you want to have when catching the ball in coverage is needed. Simple as that.
And his X-Factor is 'Maximum Security' which "increases their success rate (and decreases knockout chance) on possession catches". ????????????????????????
I think Ertz 90 is pretty underwhelming personally. It doesn't have adequate stats to fill the void of the style. Kittle is universally solid. He has stats favorable at each level and fits almost every scheme
“It doesn’t have the adequate stats...”
You mean speed? Lemme tell you somethin here sunshine, SPEED ISNT EVERYTHING!!! Lemme explain, I have Hill, Cooks and Dorsett. They’ve all fumbled...lots...on drives in which they really could’ve fuckin NOT FUMBLED. Ertz doesn’t. Matter of fact, Ertz on a corner route is disgustingly glitchy. He’s caught a pass in triple coverage multiple times for me. Meanwhile, shutting down Kittle is easy mode if you know how to play the game. Get outta here kid

This man sucks for me. He drops like 50% of CIT's
Beast red zone target he will come down w everything
As a Cowboys fan, I really hate how bad I want this card.
Not a good run blocker tho
He runs blocks for me just fine. Idk what you’re doing but you’re doing it wrong
Doesn’t make possession catches smh okay sure ea

Kittle - Vertical Threat/RAC Ertz - Possession/Route Runner
Same position but comparing the two is comparing apples to oranges. Both are solid, just pick what fits your scheme

Facts... His 84 core elite still gets stupid separation on corners, outs and ins. Some people just can't see it :liros:
