Depending on the model you are about to get and the engine, you can get a pretty decent car. Even though I'm from Germany I don't praise them above all others. I had a 2005 A6 with a 2.7 V6 TDI engine (250hp) and it had close to 180,000 miles (290,000 km). It was a quattro (awd) and it was great to drive. Maintenance cost was average. A friend of our family had the very same A6 and sold it with almost 300,000 miles, besides the maintenance he had nothing to fix.
I can't say much about the prices for parts in the US/Canada though. The quality of the 2010+ Audis has decreased, esp A4 from what I know.
BMW are imo the better choice overall but stay away from the 3 series (e90 and e91) since they have messed up the electronics.
