Yup. The distribution seems to have more characteristics in common with a type-code field rather than a 0-99 scale value. I do believe that it influences the running style of halfbacks (and maybe other differences in play style among players at other positions). It was a few years ago I last dug into it, but at the time it seemed to correlate with fumble rates at HB in the stats I'd collected at the time (may have been in 2017 or 2018? so would have been on the older game engine). It also seemed to align with anecdotal reports of certain HBs more aggressively fighting for extra yards vs protecting the ball, although I never did any sort of exercise to try to precisely define what each number meant.
yeah, I'm pretty sure this was also for throwing styles of QBs. back in my console days when i would mess around with creating players, SFO was in desperate need of a QB (even before we drafted A Smith with all of the naive hope of a HS freshman). I would mess with the different throw styles. Some worked with my style more than others.

That could be an interesting factor while trying to build your team if it still applied.
