Please find below an explanation from the MUT Development Team on the reason for the Emergency Maintenance earlier today that impacted players across all platforms.

Overnight a key database server that handles reward granting failed, allowing some Xbox One users who had pending rewards to enter into a state where those rewards were issued repeatedly. When the team discovered the issue, we immediately took down Ultimate Team to triage and diagnose the problem. Once we were certain that PC and PS4 users were unaffected, we restored service to those platforms. We have now restored service to Xbox One as well. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience that this issue has caused.
Restoring service to Ultimate Team was our priority; however, we must also tackle the content this issue generated. Alongside restoring service, we have removed the Rings currency from users who received more than they should while the issue was live. Unfortunately, it appears as though some users actively exploited the issue while it was live. Upon evaluation, we have banned from the Auction House a limited number of the most egregious cases of this exploit. This ban lasts through the duration of the Super Bowl program, or until we can audit these banned accounts to correct for the exploit, whichever comes first.
