Second all time in postseason receiving yards, Super Bowl MVP, and a 3 time SB champ isn't sniffing a tribute?

sox806

Nope...

Animalman1424

But only 6k recieving yards and 36 recieving TDs. Was he talented? Yes! Impressive stats? Not really

Nacaw

He really isn't.
> Second all time in postseason receiving yards yes but 194th in receiving yards per playoff game
>Super Bowl MVP Think Malcolm Smith will get a tribute?
>3 time SB champ Honestly surprised it wasn't more, with 12 seasons in NE

Look Edelman was a good player, but tributes are usually reserved for HOF-type players, in rare cases high-profile players with shorter careers. Edelman just doesn't fit the bill, I would have Welker ranked ahead of him in any HOF discussion but he's probably not getting a sniff either.

I was with you until you put Welker over Edelman. Welker was the prototype but Edelman perfected the role. They are both beasts but “Edelman caught it” and Wes didn’t. That’s how history will remember them. If it were different, then so would my avatar.

Nacaw

Welker, to me, became the modern-day slot receiver, and guys like Edelman would never have made it to the league without someone paving the way.
IMO that's enough to give Welker HOF consideration. But lest we forget, Welker also has the overall numbers to back it up compared to Edelman, even if a Super Bowl win proved elusive to him.
You might remember the drop on second-and-11 with 4:06 remaining while up by 2. But to suggest that's all history will remember about Welker is.. wild. He caught 7 out of 8 that day, and it's not like Tom threw a perfect ball. There are so many other plays of equal importance in that game, the only reason it's even mentioned today is because of Gisele's comment.

You can take your perceived debate to the tape. Edelman>Welker. Both jerseys in my closet. I’ll tell you who I’m taking with the game on the line, the one who showed up when it matters.

Big facts 💪

That's both revisionist and a much better line of argumentation if we were talking about either of them going to the Patriot's ring of honor or having their number retired. Showing up in big games, Welker had an 80% catch rate in Superbowls (26/32) with 247 yards. Not bad for showing up when it matters, I think? Everyone gives Edelman credit for being excellent on special teams, but Welker returned double his number of kicks and originally made his name as a return man in Miami.

To sum up, Welker had a big impact on the NFL as a whole, but I understand that he probably won't make the hall either. Don't act like Welker doesn't pop on tape with big catches in big moments, because you know he did.

Syph

I’m not saying he doesn’t. Welker was my first love for slot receivers. Edelman did it better. It’s splitting hairs but I choose Jules over Wes.

fiyaman93

Means absolutely nothing wheres does he renk amongst the greats not very high. Dude just isnt worth a tribute.

Robert Horry has the most NBA championships for any non 60s Celtic. More than Jordan. Hall of Fame? Nope.
