There's a bunch of different modes to play, single player and online
Every mode gets you progress towards some kind of goal
Playing with players gives them individual xp, up to a plus 5 overall
There's a bunch of cool dudes from different eras that you can get right away and play effectively on your team, and they get better because of leveling
Stats have less importance anyway because online it's about hitting pitches and offline play is adjustable
It took me 4 tries to beat Showdown and, first time I do, the servers kick me and give me the L. Pissed me off. I’m learning the game mechanics, but the menus and missions are much more difficult to figure out in terms of what is worth completing.
I agree with that, definitely have been through about 27 different menu sections looking for one specific thing. I do like that you can play literally any mode though and get progress. I've really just avoided the more complex systems and have been playing Moments/Games vs. CPU/BR to get better at batting and get rewards for hitting those random goals.
You can customize your jerseys

It's a lot better it terms of a dream team game

1) It has no Theme Team Boosts of any kind and people still love it. Hmmmmm....
2) I am on next Gen X Box and it is buggy and servers seem to be a disaster (people are losing players, packs, stubs) Much worse than Madden.
