"game developers" could just as easily refer to EA sports. The press release would have been clunky if it read as "will call on a game developer"
Should also consider that "game" is an ambiguous word. The alternative "game", if any, could refer to something that is not an alternative to Overdrive (e.g., a fantasy football game).
