"Upgrade player stats": as far as I know, it was possible previous years, not this year. You are wrong with training points, that does not make your card stats go higher, but its power go higher. If SPD is at 90, no matter how much you train your player, SPD will remain at 90. It was not like that on MM18.
"+5 OVR": No, it does not give +5 to each individual stat, just like +1 OVR boosts do not make each card go +1 OVR. Even if it did, at least since Spotlights, likely weeks before, it was irrelevant. Some stats never increase depending on archetype, some stats, even increased, do not weight enough as to increase your card OVR. With the release of Onyx you could see some cards OVR go slightly higher. Except for Onyx, few cards get to 106-107, most stay with 104-105 even with 10 or more +1 OVR boosts.
Additionally, to get +1 OVR in some cases you only need a key stat for that archetype to go +1. We have written a lot about that, just compare Base 83 OVR Develin with Labor Day 83 OVR Develin.
