if you're trying to pass some hyperpartisan bills and you don't have all the senate and house controlled by your party well then that stuff isn't going to pass. Trump is a lame duck president now, nothing is going to pass unless it's bipartisan
I believe all bills dealing with revenue and taxation come from the house. If I'm not mistaken, anything that the president plans to push forward that requires money must pass in the house. While the Senate is the more powerful branch of congress and was designed to represent the will of the states equally (every state is equal in senate and the terms are 3 times as long) the house is still incredibly important. Since the power is designed to reflect the populace, the 435 seats divided proportionally amongst states by population, it can change rather rapidly. Also, the limit on time members can chair committees also plays a part in some deciding to retire from the House (guess nobody wants to go back to being just 1/435 after being a big shot), which also plays part in the fluidity of those in the House.
To your original question, the importance is in raising money, power to impeach (though Senate tries impeachment) and in event that no candidate gets majority of electoral college votes in presidential election, I believe the House chooses... I may be wrong on last part though. A divided congress usually leads to lot of nothing passing.
It's not really. It's all about preventing the other side from getting stuff done. But since the Senate votes on Supreme Court justices, the goal right now for Trump has to be to hope that he can get Barrett on the SC before his finishes his presidency. It's gonna be harder for the GOP to pass bills tho
Well it's a big deal because sides have flipped. Better to control one than none. Plus it makes it harder for the "other side" to get things done (sadly which is all politics seems to be about nowadays)
Why is winning the House a big deal if you don’t also have the Senate? Cant the senate just shoot down anything the house does immediately? Technically isn’t the senate more powerful, has longer terms and therefore would be the more important elections?
