(Tutorial w/ pics) How to make Custom Cards like me:
Hello again everyone. I recently hit 5k posts on here (in 3 years lmao), so I decided to hold a contest of all of you GFX people, and anyone who wants to give it a shot.
I use 3 websites to make cards: ipiccy.com, photoscissors.com, and photopea.com. I'm sure that there are better websites or programs out there that you could use, but these are the ones that I'm used to.
Step 1
The first thing that you want to do is decide on a player and a program to make a card of. In this case, I'll be making a Colts Peyton Manning Legend LTD card.
Step 2
You want to find a picture of a pre-existing card (unless you want to make your own promo). In this case, I will be using the Rich Gannon LTD Legend card as a template to make things easier. Slammer's threads are very helpful for this
Step 3
Now you want to make the template (unless you have one already, but more on that later). I use a website called photopea.com and the "Patch Tool" to edit out the player's Name and Team Chem (If they have Team Chem). It is a very precise method, but after a little bit of practice, it gets easier. Don't close the tab. Leave the Card open
Step 4
Now go to Google Drive, and Create a "New Drawing" and open it.
Step 5
Then position and resize your name-less template.
Step 6
Find a picture or pictures that fit the original card. So in this case, there is always two pictures on LTD Legend cards: one with an away jersey, and one with a home jersey. One picture has the player's helmet off, and the other is an action shot.
Step 7
Then take these two photos to be cut out and given a transparent background. I use a website called photoscissors.com because it automatically cuts the picture out for you. From there you can mess around in there until you get used to it, and clean up any rough edges on the image.
Step 8
Then position the images on the template. If you notice in the picture, there is still some of Rich Gannon showing, as well as Peyton is not entirely behind the right side of the card. Because the original card does not have layers, you have to use Copy Paste to change up the card a bit. More on that in Step 9.
Step 9
Now you want to set up the card so it covers the overlap of your image. Copy and Paste the original template and crop it so it is just the right side of the card, and position it directly in front of the pre-existing right side, so it looks seamless.
Step 10
You should still have photopea.com open from Step 3, so head back there. This takes some practice but it doesn't have to be perfect. You want to use the same "Patch Tool" to edit out the picture on the left side of the card. It should look like a colored blur, so if it does, you didn't do anything wrong. Also cropping so it is just the picture on the left is helpful, because you don't need anything else on the card at this point, as you already have what you need on the Google Drawing.
Step 11
Then Position and Resize if necessary. You also may want to raise the Brightness of the new Blurry Image, and the Transparency slightly.
Step 12
Now you may want to edit the Brightness and Transparency of the picture or pictures of your player. In this case, and for all Legends cards, you definitely should. Also, select both of the images individually and use the "Drop Shadow" feature, set the Angle, Distance, and Change the Blur Radius. Also, change the color of the Shadow to White for Legends cards. These are smaller changes but make your card look more authentic. Also, for the white at the bottom of the Legends cards, I look up "White Fog Effect png" and find an image. I then copy paste that image onto the Card, raising the brightness of it to make it a bright white. If it is too light, then copy paste until you have the effect that you want. I also Copied 2 more of the original template, one for the right, and one for the bottom to cover the fog effect.
Step 13
Now that you have your card in order, it's time for a name. I use 2 Separate Text Boxes, one for the first name, and one for the last name. I use the font "Source Sans Pro" for all of my cards, as it is the closest thing that I could find. For the first name, I set it to Size 20, and Italicized. For the last name, I set it to Size 24 and Italicized.
First Name Color
Last Name Color
Position, and "Drop Shadow" if necessary, using the same Blur effect as in Step 12.
FINAL RESULT
If you have any questions, or need a template, feel free to ask.
I hope this helps you guys, and I can't wait to see what you guys make :)
