Honestly, if you dont want to play overdrive for HOF then the achievements are the way to go for getting an elite 84-86 (MAX). From this promo... Play the jacket event and ring event to get gold players+ packs and raffle tickets (get a collectible you can sell or exchange). Next, replay halftime events (bored city) and get bronze fragments and every 10 is 1 bust. Then only use the blitz tokens you get from 2x a day event and dont play overdrive to get any. Even use league blitz tokens, daily goals, daily pack for them...Repeat if you play overdrive for this event you will get a decent time further, but I have been able to get 5 of the 80 ovrs in 1 hr. So it is some what decent....
The events do take sometime, but anytime away from the overdrive gamemode is a good for me...
