I don't know about all of you, but the one thing that they hinted at this year that I was really looking forward to was "Weekend Tournaments." Well, we've gotten tournaments, but from my point of view, they're not quite what I'd hoped for. So, some thoughts:
1) One of the reason the former Weekend Tournaments were so popular was because they were on the weekends, a time when many of us actually have time that we don't actually have during the week. Tournaments, by themselves, are great, but the weekend element was part of it.
2) This just reinforces what we already know from Arena, but man the leaderboard system is southern fried garbage. It's an endurance race, nothing more. The tickets change that a little, but not that much. Whoever can play the most wins. The one, and maybe only, thing OD got right was a leaderboard that awarded the best players.
2a) How much time do some people spend on this game? I spent something like four hours grinding the draft tourney, and I was both exhausted and just didn't have enough time to grind anymore. I do work. And with all that grinding (and I won the vast majority of my games, scoring 3 TDs all but maybe 1 or 2 times) I still only wound up top 500. Are the people at the top sharing accounts or do they really devote 8-12 hours a day to this?
3) I am FtP. And I just can't grind like the people at the top of the leaderboards (FtP or P2W), and that's my problem. So what I've quickly learned is that, after finishing the sets, as I have no real chance to move up FOF leaderboard and squeeze into the top 1000 (I would really only have a minimal chance of doing that even if I did grind like it was a full-time job), I will just stop playing because there is no real incentive to play. I realize, as FTP, I'm not a valuable customer to EA, but I am a member of the community which makes up MM. They should want me on the app, paying or not. But if there is no incentive to play then I'm just not going to be on the app.
