If I play overdrive until the new game comes out to improve my legacy team
The UL Highlight packs might still be a great route if you're starting out. Will get your exp level up fast. It's an even better deal now that Gold IIs are so cheap. I'd grind 4oJ. Exchange most diamonds you pull for blitz unless it's a card that'll bring in decent coin on the AH. And then do the highlight packs and sell the 89 ULs. Don't even bother with the UL events at this point.

The VS events, Powerline events, 4oJ events, Movers, and the three daily blitz events at the bottom all pay out coins for wins. Get your level up and use coin boosting players (24/7, PL, 98 Bosses, XMas Brady) for better rewards.
I would focus on movers with a new team because you can get free elite and diamond players at many different positions position just for grinding simple events. See it through, and you’ll end up with 6, 99’s and Two Onyx Players. The boss program will also get you a 110 player for free every 8 days, so you could probably get two.
As others have said, sell the 4oJ collectibles you pull and build to make coins. You can easily make 1 mil+ daily in a short amount of time this way.
4oJ events are by far most profitable. Sell all collectibles and use the pulls to do the trophy to blitz sets, or keep/sell the good ones. Also take the freebies from VS and Boss and sell. Should have a few million in a couple days. Buy any cards with +1 OVR boosts.
Do power line events and the movers events. Easy coins and they come in bunches. Also sell the 4oJ collectibles. As for when the new game comes out it’s end of July or beginning of August. Somewhere there I don’t know the exact date
