Balancing OD Schemes (Opinions)

Now that I've been playing OD a bit I don't think its AS bad as I initially thought, although it's still not good. 3 minutes of button pressing just isn't all that much fun, can't set the device down or think strategically about a situation. That leads to my main point, in football it doesn't matter how you score, or how you move the ball down the field. Although, in OD it's so heavily favored towards deep passes that its almost a must to do a deep pass every play, excluding on tactics and some just ignore tactics.

Point being, if some one is good at crossing routes, short passes, or even running and especially PA plays with a delay, it's all irrelevant. I think OD would be much better if there was better balance between points given for different schemes, in someway. I dont use smashmouth, but I haven't seen many people win consistently by being good at running the ball. I think what would be great is bonuses for using X amount of each play and less bonus for let's say throwing 8 long pass type plays.

Quote from Ailman >> Running gives you twice amount of points a passing, you get 15 points for every first down. Touchdowns no matter how is 60 extra points. It seems very balanced to me. With Captain bonuses you can choose how you wanna play.

That is all true and fair. Always respect your posts. I do think with short passing, the 15 for first downs doesn't quite equate to the amount of points given for fast deep TDs. Same with PA plays. I suppose my main point was vertical play style still seems a bit more potent than others.

Appreciate the reply

This is the greatest information for spread players I have read.

I finished top 500 the last two seasons with Spread, but 74 OVR finishing #125 with it is crazy good. Have any tips? I run Jarvis and Vrabel.

If you want more play diversity, EA could always implement a diminishing return, where back to back tds of the same type will receive less and less points, but that would open up more issues than balance.

lol, did u play Spread in high levels?

Spread needs a bit of a boost

I think it’s pretty well balanced. I lose to a wide variety of coaches and Captains all the time :)

I would just like the option to toggle off west coasts terrible scheme thing where you are supposed to change the route

David’s seems to be the best, I currently use Jarvis and his is 100 points for 4 plays. Not really impressed with spread at all but it is what it is.

Spread is far less effective in overdrive, Freddie has an amazing playbook, but his tactics suck. Let’s force a vertical guy to throw the ball.... if you use Lynn and big Dave you automatically have an advantage. “Lynn fires run pressures”

i do believe spread is the best playbook for lvl though.

sucks that ea won’t let us set up a defensive strategy for overdrive but we can for the other game modes. But then again vertical would be useless

Schemes are far more balanced than last season (hell, SM is the only scheme with a useful scheme-specific skill). I still don't like the OD mode as a whole and I don't like the way EA is still incentivizing the game to the point that you are handicapping yourself if you don't play it, but I have no complaints about scheme balance.

Java

I think the schemes are far more balancend compared to last season although vert and wc keep the leading positions. But a sm player is in the top five at ranked atm, cannot remember any point of last season where this was the case. I dont know about spread ovr, their options look pretty good but as I win close to 100% against them maybe their playbook lacks other good plays.
