A Deep Dive into the West Coast Snub: By the Numbers
I've seen threads and posts of people counting the number of high ovr cards released per scheme over the past how many ever weeks, which is useful and telling for sure, but it doesn't cover everything. Because not only are cards of a certain scheme simply being released a factor in terms of favoring schemes, so is how good they are, as well as how easy they are to obtain. For instance, an 87 WC FB was just released last week, which is great. However, it's a Primetime, and so availability is low and the price is high. Another example is a card like Spread Brady. Relatively cheap to obtain, but he sucks and nobody wants him, therefore he's not on the same level as say, WC Dak. Make sense?
So with all that in mind, I decided to map out every 87+ (86+ for the offensive line) card in the game according to three categories, OVR, desirability (how much people in a scheme want the card) and availability (how expensive/easy it is to obtain the card). I ranked both desirability and availability on scales of 1 to 5, with 1 being most wanted and free, and 5 being least wanted and very hard to obtain. I then calculated a final grade of every position in each scheme by simply adding the average of all three of those categories together for a total value (for example, an average of 87 ovr, 3 desirability and 2 availability at a position equals a total value of 92). Those values are what you will see in the top chart below, and the total averages at the end of the top chart are simply the averages of all those values for each scheme (in other words, the average of each row). The bottom chart then shows the averages of all the values for the three categories for each scheme. I tried to explain that as best as I could. If you didn't get it, just roll with me.
