Does speed even matter?

just witnessed jahri Alexander (no I don’t care if his name is right) keep up with 93 speed tyreek hill on a streak while he was pressed and get a pic 40 yards down field.... how does this even begin to make sense

TooTsTiMe

Richard Sherman has given up 1 catch this year, one of the best CBs in the league the last 6 years, and one of the slowest

I agree with all the stats combined. I've always thought that way and have never been huge on speed as long as they are 88 speed or faster, but where i do have a problem I can't tell you how many kickoff returns I've had with hill with nobody to beat and he gets chased down from behind.

Size does. A randy moss at 6’ 4” for example, vs let’s say any rando 5’ 10” guy w/ the exact same speed, let’s go with 91 in this example, on a 40/ya streak randy will beat the guy every time due to stride. His legs are longer, therefore he gets further faster. Now, over 40/yds in this case, that might be less than a yard and a half give or take the half, but speed IS NOT the difference, stride is. Longer legs cover more ground at the same speed as let’s say a Wes Welker.

I hope this answers your question, but w/out any doubt, it does NOT. Size does.

I'm sorry, I invested a ton of time and money into my 93 team, should I NOT expect that 93 team to crush and dominate a 78 team in ANY mode at ANY setting without having to go full cheese? IMHO I should, and that is just NOT how this game performs most of the time.

I mean, if you want an honest answer then no, very occasionally that weaker team should get an upset win. Happens in real life, not often but it does happen.

Trouble is that it happens

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the QB throwing stats yet which could factor into it. Deep accuracy threshold is hard to meet so even with decent throw power there is chance QB left ball a little short.

Who knows exactly, I havent been as big as most on Tyreek this year. Still using his 87 PU as WR#3 and some plays the speed is really noticeable but others seems route running just as important.

Could you imagine if every single time the slower player lost the match up? It wouldn't even be football, it would be a track meet. It should be a balance of player, technique, and athletic ability that wins a match up, not whoever has the most speed. The difference between the fastest and slowest CB or WR in the game is .3-.4 of a second, some of that can be overcome by technique against a less technical player. Plus trying to force it to the "fast guy" is a recipe for trouble, like Hodgey said, make the right reads and when it does break open take advantage, that's the point of having a very fast vertical threat.

ecbhowarth

My 95 Odell Beckham has 94 speed and idk what to tell you, he burns many people and it’s always nice having that deep threat. Speed kills.

I think there’s a point to be made that because Odell’s route running stats are so good he definitely gets more separation than someone like Hill. I got rid of Hill because he is not strong enough and he drops everything

but like Hodgey33 said, you gotta make your progressions. Just because your player has what, 5 more speed than your opponent doesn’t mean they’re open all the time on 9 routes and if he is covered then you gotta move to your next read instead of just throwing it and hoping. Football doesn’t work like that (unless you’re David Tyree)

Quote from Hodgey33 >> Next time try an unbumpable route instead of a fade. Alexander has 81 press and Hill has 81 pres so its a fair match up. IRL live if a WR is getting pressed well he wont get a clean release and wont be able to get to top speed quick. Also make a better read, clearly you tried to anticipate the throw because of hills speed instead of reading your progressions.

 Spot on

Occasionally you're just not going to get enough separation on those streaks, but I'm also running 93 speed Hill and it feels to me like he runs away from his defender on a solid 70% of streak attempts when pressed at the All-Pro level. (Wentz's skittish ass doesn't always hit him in stride, unfortunately.) Don't let a single play put you off: Hill is mostly going to win if you keep going back to him. If it looks like he might not win on any one play, it pays to know where your second read is.

thedrunkgamer

Not in solo battles as a 79 gold CB ran with my 90 Moss and out jumped the bomb, 40 yards, for an INT... When I chose the high pass and usering Y catch!

I think speed totally matters

Totally Agree with you if you get behind the d you most likely gone and I've noticed rb will out run slower player

arion875

Playing CFM this year. JJ Nelson has 96 Speed. In franchise that's Usain Bolt fast. Or at least it should be. 1 on 1 with a CB with 88 Speed in a game the other week, no over the top help. CB kept pace and broke up the pass, no problem at all.

Seriously. Just what is the point?

This it’s all about playing the percentages. That’s why people spam plays that work the most often.  Eventually they result in points or stops depending.

Speed matters but other stats matter just as much
