Revolving Your Defense Around Your Safeties (Tips)

I think great safeties are the key to playing good defense in this game.  Pass rushers and linebackers are fine, but the pass rush is inconsistent and you can create better pressure through scheme rather than through great players.  It's your safeties -- through placement and Abilities -- that can rein in the run game and create havoc in the pass game.  I use all three of my defensive Ability slots on safeties at the moment, and I don't regret it one bit.

My defense revolves around four great safeties:

99 FS Minkah Fitzpatrick -- Abilities -- Enforcer, Lurker, Universal Coverage -- X-Factor -- Reinforcement
Minkah is my best Man Coverage safety, and he has CB as his secondary position.  That is crucial for my system, as you'll see if you keep reading.  In my opinion, he gets the best Abilities in the game, as only he (among my safeties) can get Universal Coverage, which gives him improved coverage in both man and zones.  Obviously, he gets a boost from my 30/50 Steelers and Tier 3 Steelers Pass Defense chemistries, but even without that he is an amazing card.

Yeah.  I’ll do that next week.

To anyone running Minkah... do you find his low TAK stat to be a problem?  Or do you use something like Secure Tackler on him to make up for that?

Thinking of picking him up to try out.

Lots of fumbles....Against very good schemes, sometimes the coverage breaks down, but we still manage to get some hit sticks on receptions unless they auto duck when catching and fall to the ground, but at least it limits RAC

25/50 Pats and 25/50 Niners also, Full Brawler, LD, RS

You really had me thinking about this since you posted, was running something similar. I had Minkah up for auction so glad he didn't sell, fully PU Minkah. now my hit squad looks like this Safeties  ST, Adams & Tillman CB  NTL, Lott & Minkah Sub Mlb are  Adams & Hendricks everyone has 90+ POW, currently have enforcer on Minkah, Lott & Hendricks I now only do 1 sub and that's Minkah for Lott on 4-3 formations, so far avg 3-4 fumbles a game easily I subscribed on Twitch you deserved it and thanks again

I've been running 4-4 with 3 Enforcers for a while now, Adams and Derwin at CB and ST at Safety. This post is incredible with ideas to mix it up with the safeties. Right now I feel the need to stay in my 4-4 and sometimes get lit up by pass heavy teams. So many great tips in here, thank you sir.

I am however curious why you don’t mention the name of the play on most of the helpful hints?  Is it intentional? If so, why? Thanks man, I’ll be trying these out. (Provided I can find them lol)

sorry but no one is decent the first 3 games lmaooo.  come back when you are close to legend tier

Great write up, but don’t you find it odd that there are a lot of responses of folks doing similar things?    Several of those formations are what i refer to trash meta cheese.  Nothing really original until you “get good” Using original non meta plays.   I know I won’t be popular with this opinion, but had to point out there is nothing original about those D selections.  I applaud u for using more than one though.

Sorry!  Thought I listed the play names each time.  It’s 4-4 Split Cover 3, 3-4 Bear Cover 3, 3-4 Odd Edge Blitz 1, Nickel Normal Cover 4 Palms, and Big Dime 1-4-6 Cover 3 Sky.

 C4DS2 is cheating.

good intentions op. enforcer is garbage tier bad for the game, also unskillful and unrealistic. some of your use section is unskillful and unrealistic also.

if you didnt have good intentions i would of abused you for sharing and telling people to play the game the wrong way without skill or realism.

Quote from jcsteel66 >> Quote from Trapstar916 >> Great post man. Do you put lurker or multiple positions because you user different guys? I’ve heard lurker helps CPU controlled guys but I’ve yet to test/see it. I too am safety heavy with ST Adams Calvin and Tillman

Yeah.  I user different guys all the time.  It helps throw off the opponent, too.  I don’t think Lurker is supposed to help click-on picks, but I made a SICK one with Minkah tonight, so who knows...
