With this year I have noticed you gotta blitz in the more competitive games. Can’t give anybody time in the pocket. Typically I like to sit back and look for patterns. Some sort of bunch/trips where there’s no split wideout to one side of the field or a single wr to one side that they never send on a streak. I’m coverting my cover 2 and putting the saftey with no wr over the top into a mid third ad blitzing my mlb instead of putting him in a deep blue. I’m always trying to find a way to send 6. Once I get them behind the chains 2nd or 3rd in long, show blitz but set up coverage. One coverage i Iike that confuses people is out of cover 2. I Take a saftey( sub in high man corner at saftey) and Cross Man a wr that they are playmakering or have been sending on a deep post. Replace his deep blue zone with the corner on that side. Olb to that side into a hard or cloud flat. User mlb in the middle. The seem route to the side you have the corner dropping deep into can be open for a quick read but user the seem to the middle. Adjust or blitz other players as needed.

I run cover 3 a lot with just different coverage adjustments like underneath, overtop, etc and occasionally throw in cover 2 and some man coverages that I can still have a user on, and occasionally cover 6 or cover 9 if I know which side of the field will have offensive guys in the flats. if you want your guys to protect the first down marker and goal line to the best of their ability, pre snap hit Y then LB to protect the sticks (this also prevents a lot of the cheese offensive plays) it prevents zones from locking onto single routes and letting others get behind them wide open (mostly deep blue zones) due to this years zone matching system.
find a base defense that you feel comfortable with, then adjust to whatever the opponent is doing

Knowing to user is one thing but knowing how to bait and trick your opponents with your user is another. If you make a mistake and they complete the ball on your user, remember the formation and route as best you can so the next time you see that formation you can act like you’re going to make the same mistake, then at the last second bounce to the route he completed it on last time for the user lurk.
if you really want help ill give you a "nano" i learned just pm me if you want it you can throw it in 3rd and long or something.
Adjustments are huge. Have you run through the Skills Trainer at the top menu? They offer some good tips that you can blend into any playstyle. On top of that, you'll get a couple of free packs.
I have the same problem, get torched all day by CPU and players. I usually user a DE and get decent pressure but they still hit open guys all day long.
