Odd, I get someone occasionally, and just as often my guy jumps. I do it so they can't time my snap count
This. I don't do it every play or even every set of downs, but I like to throw it in to throw off my count or to see how the opponent plans on attacking with their user. I'd say I do it a lot more for those reasons than to try to actually get a penalty.

Some people are thick headed and think you will forget after the first or second time.
So yesterday I was playing this guy who must've had on aggressive pass rush. I started the drive on my own 23. His players literally jumped offsides EVERY TIME I fake snapped. I didn't run a single play, and got all the way to the one yard line.
His next possession, I was able to get another 30 yards or so doing this until I guess he finally turned it off.
Even though I got the benefit, I still think it's ridiculous.
Oh, and as to why I kept running it? Two reasons: 1) I was legitimately curious to see how far I could take it and 2) he was a Vick rollout cheeser anyway, so fuck that guy.
