regarding your #2, safeties in the NFL tend to play off when there is a blitz dialed up so they can get a read on the QB and jump the route. If they line up over who they cover its a dead giveaway and you show your hand.

saying they have everything wrong. for a long time some routes have beat man even if you have a silver or gold vs the best cb in the game, dont even get me started on speed vs route running. also cannot count the number of times someone much slower uses one of these routes and stays open vs someone faster (like an invisible cushion than cant be closed) until the ball is caught. there is also the defender standing still watching the receiver run the route or make the cut before reacting.

so the current situation is this : man blitz are too effective and take no skill where cover 1 or cover 2 are overall inferior to zone.

but here is the big problem, man blitzes. man coverage is 30 times more skillful than zone could ever be, especially the way most people play zone. however man blitzes are incredibly unskillful and are the reason man will either be unusable or too strong.
