How much does John Madden know about the true state of his game?
I'm sure his grandkids play and have a blast playing a video game like most people do
Most of his development was in ensuring that it was 11 on 11, playbooks, and some epic commentary (and the creation of the annual All-Madden team that you got to play against). Back when he was involved, those things were a huge step up. People weren't so focused on every little detail like we are now. Also, their was not online play then so all of the playbook abuse that you see today was a non-issue.
"wow, he got hit so hard I think he is talking through his ear hole" this literally 20 times per game. "the basic concept is to see who scores the most points...."

He probably does just sit back and enjoy, as long as he gets paychecks I'm not sure why he would pay attention anymore
Madden is 82 and retired, he has not been personally involved in many years, at this point its just a nice licensing deal propping up his retirement.
