You have to user the crossing route or man up the crossing receiver with an equally fast DB/nickel corner. However, a good player will smart route the TE or slot receiver as soon as you vacate the middle of the field.
Your BEST best (and what I do) is send a crazy blitz. There are loads and loads of fast blitzes. There's a good one out of dollar that trumpetmonkey just posted in the strategy section. There are also many versions of crossfire to look into. Pressing the crossing WR will also buy your blitz time. But basically, send a blitz, and make him throw the ball before the wr reached the opposite side of the field. A panicky QB will throw it right at your user if you hang in the middle of the field, just under the crossing route.
Whenever I come across pass plays that give me trouble, in particular, longer developing plays, the answer is usually to blitz. Force quick throws on short routes, and force him to nickel and dime you all the way down the field. No big yards. Then clamp down in the red zone. THat's been my strategy all year, and it's worked.
It definitely needs one route to be covered by your user - the triangle receiver especially if not hot routed. Are you struggling with it stock, or are there hot routes too? Your adjustments will vary depending on what hot routes your opponent is getting you with.

I actually tried this and got a sack. Figured, what the hell, let's try it!
How is everyone defending this? All of a sudden I'm getting burned no matter what I do.
