I would recommend not pre-ordering Madden until the last minute. Hold off.
Obviously, pre-ordering only benefits MUT players. So there is no reason to pre order if you just play regs. Anyway, the NFL season seemed like a guarantee a few weeks ago, but not anymore. If the season gets canceled or shortened, it will completely KILL MUT content. MUT requires a lot of content aside from monthly promos for the mode to be viable. While promos in between major promos can continue, like Flashbacks, Heavyweights, and Legends, there will be a lot of content cut out. We are talking Football Outsiders (while only once a month, is needed) and Team of the Week, which provides fresh content weekly.
But there is more to it than that. Promos like Free Agency, which is a seasonal promo, would not be in the game without a football season as contracts would not expire. This could lead to a situation where we wait for two months for another promo.
What else would be cut out? NFL Honors, Team of the Year, Playoffs, Super Bowl, and potentially the Rookie promo. The Thanksgiving promo would also suffer immensely as the promo requires games to be played on Thanksgiving day.
It's one thing if we were talking like 2 promos, but there are a lot of promos that will be cut or suffer immensely without a season. MUT is pointless without content. We've already seen how content is suffering as we speak, and the new Madden isn't out til August.
