How to stop trap runs?
But I was told I should have 8 defensive backs! And I was told 3-3-5 wide stopped the run! I thought I could play with 1 D lineman and “shoot the gap”!? The OP just dropped a big secret....
I use Big Nickel mostly with a bit of 3-4 odd lol, blame EA for making linebackers suck this year

I just use Big Nickel Over G. Cover 2: show blitz, crash your line, slant inside and you can shoot the gap right up the middle with your safety or linebacker user.
You’ll need to make some adjustments to stop the pass if they are throwing too but that’ll shut down the run. Works for me at least.

I spy my user and let the CPU carry me to the spot then I'm lined up to shoot the trap
I usually shift line toward running back then slant up. Then I shoot gaps with a safety/slot cb not usually in the box.
