Tips for Defense?

I'm having some defensive woes in WL, and find myself constantly giving up corner routes to Jonnu Smith (I f*cking hate that guy) and everything for my opponent is always open. I try to run a lot of Nickel but I don't have a fast defense that can keep up with Route Tech Wide Recievers, despite having 2 One Step Ahead's. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to play defense good? I'm not great at making on-the-fly adjustments and my opponents always leave me struggling to adjust. And obviously my Offense is ass lmao, but I need a good defensive setup. I've lost too many games to terrible opponents this WL so far and I want to get better.

I run 2 guys (Ware and Von) with Double or Nothing and Instant Rebate, and 2 guys (CHJ and DRC) with One Step Ahead but I want to change the CB abilities.

Ware and Von barely get any pressure, as I maybe get one sack per game on average.

I also want to know some coverage beaters out of the Saints Playbook that I can use without having a HRM QB, as I have been using Tebow. Also, how to set up Big Nickel Over G Cover 3 Sky to make it good.

Anything to suggest?

Smith is tough to cover, user/double-covering him can get really annoying but he’s a threat. As for the Saints man-beaters, check out all of their gun formations with 3 receivers (there are like 8) - there is so much money to be found there and there are plenty of other great formations there too many to list... definitely comb through huddle.gg, there are great route combos and concepts in those plays and HRM can really amplify them. Good luck brother

Pass commit or “guess pass” helps your guys cover better.

Is it a noticeable difference or is it more subtle?

Lol remember a couple years ago when if you did this and they ran the ball it would just pancake your whole team

Start watching pro players on twitch and see what different coverages they use. You can pick up a lot by watching them.

If you use the Saints playbook, go into the gameplay suggestions forum and look for the posts breaking down coverage beaters out if the Saints playbook. There are a few threads and you might have to scroll through a few pages to see them all but they were highly detailed and I thought they were well done

So a shed defense and man coverage mix like oil and water. If you wanna run OSAs then you have to send heat. For me the majority of the time they're my only guys in coverage.

I've been trying that but most of the time my guys get picked up for whatever reason, no matter how much I send. I always send Ware and Von on the edge and they never get pressure, and Jamal Adams gets blocked up the middle every time. Usually what gets me is the deep crossers that beat any coverage that I run.

Run Cover 1 robber and press. Put that yellow into a purple and then take the defensive end or OLB opposite of the purple you made and put him into a purple zone as well. That will help you ALOT. And you’ll learn from there
