i worry about it because the NFL isn't ruined to me. I still find it highly enjoyable. I simply don't like the current OT format.

Quote from HarshP722 >> It should really just simply be each team is guaranteed one possession, if they both score a TD, then it goes to sudden death.
That idea sound amazing!
If it’s the college rules, they would have to start at mid field or further

Play D or shut your whiny little sissy girl mouths.
This.
Aside from the bad call in the 4th quarter, the Rams played defense in overtime, got the ball back, and got the win. While, in my mind, the game never should have gone to overtime, the Rams did what they had to do in overtime to get the win. Meaning, play defense!

There's more to football than just offense. Toughen up your defenses to shut down the offense.
Current NFL, but just in the playoffs allow the opposing team the opportunity to possess the football. Then go sudden death from there.
College. But make them start at the 25. And then if both score a TD, next TD wins.
Do college OT but start the teams on the other 25 so they actually have to put together a drive. In this proposed format punting has no value so it does make defense harder but the defense has a lot of field to defend.
Both teams should get possessions.
.... and when the score is 77-77, they can just hand out participation trophies instead of having the game determine the victor.

Current NFL.
Sudden Death sucks because the team who wins the toss has too much power. All they have to do is get into FG range and make a kick. They don't even have to TRY to score a TD.
I like watching the College OT. But it has flaws. Starting at the 25 makes it so easy to score.
The current NFL OT format is a good format. It forces the team who gets the ball first into a situation where they have to get the TD to win. It gives the team who loses the coin toss a fair opportunity to get the ball. It works.
The Chiefs lost because their defense (which was poor all season) could not buy a stop a key moment. That simple. They had plenty of opportunities.
College OT has always been fun but the NFL will never take up an idea that originated in the NCAA level.
College. The nfl should adopt college OT rules but make teams start at their own 25 yard line
current NFL rules. if you can't stop the Pat's at least force a FG. If you force a FG, you have your chance to tie or win. Truthfully if teams were allowed to match TD's, games would never end
I kind of feel like none are that great, I think college OT is cool, but idk that I want it in the NFL, I think they just need to make it truly both teams have a chance to possess the ball. If the first team gets it and scores a FG, second team has a chance to score a FG to keep the game going, or TD to win, if the first team scored a TD + extra point, second team could score a TD, and extra point to keep it going, or 2pt for the win / fail and loss. So kinda similar to college where they go back and forth, but just normal drives..
edit, kind of thought while I was typing it, this wouldnt work because it could pad stats like crazy, so maybe like first drive work like that, then go to sudden death if both teams possess the ball and dont score. but at least give both teams a chance to get the football once.
Which OT format do you think is best and why?
Would you be against College OT because it adds to the length of the game? Is that really a bad thing? People love "more free football" I'd imagine.
Is sudden death really any different than the current NFL OT format given the rise of offensive production in the league nowadays? Seems to basically be the same.
Does the coin toss have too much power?
Thoughts?
