Going for that 4th at your own 18, was beyond stupid.
Iโd only do it if I needed to like letโs say the 4th quarter or run a better play than that on 4th down
If you don't understand expected points probability just say that.
It was dumb. It's that simple.
It's not simple and its way over your head
If "Expected Points Probability" is the probability of them converting that 4th and 1, well that alone does not warrant that decision. You seem to think you are some intellectual super hero; you're not. Now you are resorting to throwing out a vocabulary term as if it validates you and your view. I have never heard of the term "Expected Points Probability," and my not knowing it does not mean I would not understand the concept.
It has nothing to do with the conversion. Punting from your own 18 yard is expected to result in points for the Raiders because of the field position they are going to start with. Going for it there increases your chances of scoring (by punting your new expected points for that drive is 0). 4th and 1 is not a reckless go. You guys are just wrapped up in the field position because you can't understand the Raiders are expected to get points if you punt the ball.
I'm a high school OC and I went for it 4th and 1 on my own 12 and winning in the 4th qtr. I'm also a math teacher. Is he a doofus or just understands the math better than you? Teams have done this before, this year and last year. McVay went for it on 4th and 1 on his own 29 up 21-16 with 6 minutes left in the 3rd.
Doofus.
Doofus? That it happened before does not make the move smart. The call is judged in a vacuum. IT WAS OBJECTIVELY STUPID. Though you could say that 99.9% of the time teams punt it. The only time it might be viable is if it can create a 2 for 1 situation where converting also means you're probably winning the game. Alas, Chargers are watching the playoffs from home now.
And nobody cares about high school and it is not comparable. You act like whether you coach high school or the NFL the chess game is the same. It's not. You can clearly see how the NFL is played different even from college. What's worse about the validation you try to give your fail opinion (implying it wasn't stupid because McVay has done it) is that you're not even capable enough to be the head coach of a high school team. You're a relegated to coordinator. Guess what? In high school we drove over 80 yards for a score calling 26 power on every play. We called it something 10-12 times in a row.
You probably have the offense come out in bunch and then have them flip the play because it works in Madden.

The Chargers got every call they could ever get and still got done in. The Raiders even extended a tie-tie scenario and Bolts' Coach took a time-out. Ooops.
Going for it on his own 18 yard line. What a doofus. Deserve to lose. Also, the Chargers did get bailed out on 4th and 21. Ngokue had the most blatant hold on him. The offensive tackle genetically mutated mid play and grew out two extra arms from under his pits so that he could make sure to commit offensive holding on Ngokue. I only bring that up because apparently the Chargers fans are saying the refs bailed out the Raiders. The refs also did not call two face masks on the Chargers defense.
Why do I say all this? Because ultimately, Chargers lost by going for it on their own 18 yard line in the first half of the game.
