Maybe your team should have drafted a LT that someone projected into the first round instead of Christensen, then.

Historically it'd be players they had some prep work done on cards for before the first round. If they appeared in a recent first round mock, they'll likely get a card, if they didn't they probably won't.

I can almost guarantee it. This is traditionally where they release cards they had prepped to some extent ahead of time for the first round and JOK was in most first round mocks.
