Counter works great if you have been pounding the ball in one direction either stretch or dive in the same formation. It will catch the user off guard anf typically you can break the outside. You do need a decent line to hold blocks, otherwise it will be a TFL

Recently I have been having a lot of trouble keeping up with this play. Its common online and in my Madden Franchise 32 man league.  What is the ideal defensive scheme to combat this basic play? Cover 3 purple zones get cooked - if you don't cross man, the left or the right side WR will be open. I think its an AI exploit... Thoughts?

I agree with you on this, I have been exposed by this same bullshit cross play.  Cross man is the solution to lock this up. Took me multiple beatings to learn it
