In my opinion, the trick is to outmatch your opponents with key positions that are in line with your gameplan.   So for instance...   I want to be able to bomb 1 play tds so I go for qb with high THP and fast wrs. I also play out of Trips TE so I spend big cap on a fast TE that will give most linebackers major problems.   My D is a 3-4 4-3 combo so i don't need that 3rd cb most of the game.   I blitz my SS a lot from 4-3 so I put the fastest one I can afford in. But when I'm in 3-4 he needs to have 91 zone so... It's a balance.   The problem I see with a high team ovr is that everyone is average.    But if you're saying it causes your players to function better, that's interesting.

That's what I'm wondering. It seems like in a quest for building high team ovr you end up at a disadvantage against overpowered positions.

That's interesting. I don't have an answer for you, but How does the 88 ovr do against teams with high powered position players?
